When God laughs

                                                                                    When God laughs
                                                                                     Written by Karah

                                                                                                         January 18,2009
Dedicated to : Lonworth Butler Jr.

I have often heard my sister say that people are complex.  I totally agree with her.  One of the things that I do know about people is that they are God's prized creation.

God did not send His son Jesus to die for the fallen angels. God, however, did not hesitate to devise a complete and detailed   plan to fully redeem mankind back into the Kingdom of God.  God even gave mankind the option to accept or reject this path back to Him.  Now, that is what I call awesome!

God's plan included , His only begotten son Jesus, to execute this complex yet simple path to redeeming mankind back into the Kingdom of God. The plan is masterfully revealed to mankind in the Bible beginning with Genesis through Revelations.  Yet, some aspects of God's plan for mankind has been hidden from sight until the appointed time.

God has so many wonderful attributes.  One of His attributes is a sense of humor. There are many parables or stories in the Bible that reflect God's humor in situations and in dealing with people.  Some of the God's humor is reflected over time and at other times immediately.

One of many of the stories that comes to mind is found in (Old Testament) Numbers 22:21-40.  Here we see Balaam's Donkey having an intelligent and lengthy conversation with him.  Now, who ever heard of a talking donkey?  It even gets more interesting when the man (Balaam) started speaking back to the donkey.

Take the story of Catherine Donnelly, who is currently an attorney in Atlanta.  Twenty-five years ago Catherine was accepted into an American Ivy League college.   Upon meeting her roommate she was horrified that her roommate was black.  You see,  Catherine was from the south and, she was not used to living with black people.  Naturally, Mrs. Alice Brown, being a loving mother, did not hesitate to go to the college office and demand that her daughter be removed from the room with this black young lady.

I would like to note that during this time period (25 years ago)  there were many whites living in the South who did not share this closed minded view of blacks.

Catherine was removed from the room at once.  Catherine graduated from college and is currently, as I alluded to earlier, a practicing attorney here in Atlanta.

That was approximately twenty-five years ago.  One day Catherine was watching TV   while Mrs. Michelle Obama was speaking at Winston Salem State University.  My, Catherine thought, this lady looks awfully familiar.  To her shock and amazement, Michelle Obama was that roommate (then Michelle LaVaughn Robinson) that she had dismissed some twenty-five years ago. When God laughs.

One would have to admit that even though this is a serious and sad matter, one has to also see the sense of humor in it   I think that God had some hand in this.  God loves us all with our strengths as well as our weaknesses.

This reminds me of Sharon Morgan, a young black mother from South Florida with four beautiful children.
Mrs Morgan despised white people. Her pre-judgement of whites came from all the wrong thinking she heard and accepted as facts. In reality, her thinking was far from the truth.  Mrs. Morgan had just come through a surgery. Approximately four days after the surgery her husband walked out the door and simply disappeared off the face of the earth. Physically unable to work due to a long recovery, Mrs. Morgan's mortgage fell behind; basic bills went unpaid.  Soon, she and her children were being evicted from their home.  Mrs. Morgan had no resources to fall back on; no family member or friend who could lend a hand. A future of homelessness stared her in the face. At her very lowest, help came. And it came from the most unlikely source. Three white ladies heard about Mrs. Morgan’s plight. They joined forces. The white women paid the arrears on Mrs. Morgan’s mortgage; and paid her mortgage in advance for the entire year. Mrs. Morgan admitted that this experience changed her warped way of thinking forever.   Mrs. Morgan no longer judges people by the color of their skin, but by their character. When God laughs.

As human beings, God’s prized creation, let’s make a sincere effort to not allow any negative information from the outside environment to shape the way we think of others. Let us value and respect ourselves, as well as others. Let us encourage our fellow human beings with uplifting words. Let’s join God in his laughter, one day at a time.

What is it about the single raindrop that makes it so special?
It is unique…
Just like you.

Like the solitary raindrop, you are a power of one.
Working in unity, we are an unstoppable force.
With the Creator’s help, together, we can move mountains.

To the Alpha and Omega, I pray
That, day by day, in your uniqueness you may grow
And embrace the mighty power of working together, as one,
In the shining example of the Single Raindrop.
